These artworks are headed to the state capital building to show off how amazing out students are at Pioneer Elementary!
Moon Phase Painting and Collage Sixth grade students participated in a discussion around moon phases, taking visual notes in their sketchbook. Students then painted a galaxy, exploring properties of watercolor. Students decided on 4 phases of the 8 to collage onto their galaxy background. Science - 6th Grade Standard 1 Students will understand that the appearance of the moon changes in a predictable cycle as it orbits Earth and as Earth rotates on its axis.Objective 1 Explain patterns of changes in the appearance of the moon as it orbits Earth. Standard 6.V.CR.3: Demonstrate openness in trying new ideas, materials, methods, and approaches in making works of art and design.
Sedimentary Rock Arch Collage Second grade students focused on learning and describing different rock types, identifying characteristics of each rock type. Students collaged a sedimentary rock arch to show how the layers form over time. Students also learned about the main object and background to produce their artworks.
Standard 2 Earth and Space Science. Students will gain an understanding of Earth and Space Science through the study of earth materials, celestial movement, and weather. Objective 1 Describe the characteristics of different rocks. Strand: CREATE (2.V.CR.) Students will generate artistic work by conceptualizing, organizing, and completing their artistic ideas. They will refine original work through persistence, reflection and evaluation(Standards 2.V.CR.1–5).
